Thanks to my brother Joselito for highly recommending this book to me. The Book of Disquiet is utterly fascinating. Much has already been written of the brilliant poetic style, dezasosiego the trenchant and memorable aphorisms, so I will instead write about what is not so often discussed: The Book of Disquiet is not in any sense a novel.

A strange book composed of a couple of hundred short journal like entries into the mental landscape of the writer. He sings his thoughts through his writings and then dances on the music he creates during this process.

Little happens in the work other than thinking about the self and its relationship with others and the world. Exactly what the hell is that supposed to mean? Because there are a lot fernaneo better things, namely, a lot of better books, waiting on my To Be Read shelf. Also abstraction for abstraction’s sake is a big turn-off. However, ultimately, I found it both fascinating and just a little bit frustrating.


It’s curious that what little capacity I have for enthusiasm is aroused ternando those most unlike me in temperament. There is a fluidity to the self which has only ever barely been hinted at in the course of literature.

Thanks, Fernando, for introducing me to this pesaoa mindfuck, which will plague me, unanswered, until my dying day. Fame and ambition, rain and dreams. Certainly the idea holds merit.

I have walked away from books in hatred before. Ryan I can think of a couple of reasons for this: People love this book. I love with my eyes, Not my fantasy. Yet other times he can seem utterly arrogant in his narcissism. The landscape, admirable as a picture, rarely makes a comfortable bed. YOU may well be able to, just one man’s point of view here.

Or if it was, I totally missed the humor. So, much as I respect all the people I know who rated this book highly, I’m leaving it as unfinished. So, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be going to pick out something better to read.

He read this in his Kindle last year and when he saw a copy in Powerbooks, he texted me right away saying that I must go to that bookstore immediately and buy because I don’t have a Kindle this lone copy.

A better way to compare the sizes of different versions would be with word counts.
