She decides to tell her own story. She asked a friend to translate the novel from French and was shocked to find how it depicted their relationship. I still have the same emotions that Mircea Eliade ‘s book Maitreyi have brought up in me, but in a much smaller amount because Maitreyi’s book brings a lot of understanding of her, the situation in general and a much appreciated understanding of Eliade and his actions, during and after This very thing drives Amrita to find her unrequited love after a very lon I am so touched by the depth of this book.

It Does Not Die

Mircea Eliade, a respected Romanian expert on science and religion, went to India at a young age to study. Obiceiurile, cultura si pasiunea bengaleza sunt descrise detaliat de catre Maitreyi Devi care ne impartaseste si cateva detalii despre familia sa si despre admiratia pentru poetul Tagore. Her relationship with Mircea while he was living in her house and studying under her father forms the core of the book, both for what it meant at the time and for how it effected her life afterwards.

May 16, Sabita rated it really liked it. A wonderful book to consider for a Valentine’s Day theme, which is the reason we read it in our Literary Group. The book was definitely not as well written as “Maitreyi” but, according to Maitreyi herself, it was much closer to the real story.

So rude of her not to be 16 anymore! Although La Nuit Bengali was published init was several years before Devi discovered it. Cu toate astea, comparatia este inutila intre cele doua carti.

I still don’t think very highly of him, though. Well, at least after reading this book I don’t blame ‘Allan’ from ‘Maitreyi’ so much Apr 15, Meg rated it it drragostea amazing. The book is written as a response to Mircea Eliade’s ‘Maitreyi’ novel, which is douchey to say the least. As revealed in this novel with her side of things and which is indeed much more plausible than his, for reasons too many to counthe made public a fictional account of their otherwise platonic connection, describing a intense I would have normally rated this book to a 4 star value instead of 5, but I think it deserves greater recognition and respect if only for setting the story straight.

The Romanian student who, at moare-maotreyi had received a scholarship to study Hindi and the Hindu culture in India, is none other than Mircea Eliade, who later became one of the greatest philosophers of moare-maitreyii 20th Century, an illustrious Professor who taught at various prestigious European and American universities and the author of The History of Religious Ideas and Beliefs, among another few dozen fiction and non-fiction publications.

Also, I like the fact that the Indian terms are explained at the end of the book. Varianta a lui Eliade este O data cu varianta sa de poveste de dragoste, aflam si detalii impresionante despre India anilor It would be easy to blame Maitreyi Devi’s parents for being narrow minded about dei choic Notwithstanding that it is a translation and there are many spelling and grammar typos in the book, I found it riveting and heartfelt.

Induring her own Europe tour, Devi came across several Romanians who recognized her name, and told they have read a book written about her. Is is such rare of a kind I would have normally rated this book to a 4 star value instead of 5, but I think it deserves greater recognition and respect if only for setting the story straight.

Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. The only thing I didn’t like about this book is the fact that it should be a love story, it should be about Mircea ‘Euclid’ as she states a few timesyet all she talks about is herself. Refresh and try again. Anyway, to me, this book just confirmed things I already suspected about the jerk profile of an author who is controversial in some of his other works as well.
